A fun workshop led by Carol highlighting a number of ways to upcycle textiles. The group enjoyed learning how to turn t-shirts into shopping bags. They also created custom designed greeting cards using recycled paper, vintage lace and cotton scraps. The class also included instructions on how to create a custom designed woven handbag by creating a simple loom on cardboard and weaving with fabric strips.
Our Social Fabric sponsored a children’s workshop featuring textile recycling projects. The girls chose fabrics to create abstract canvases while learning about the challenges that the world faces as a result of textile pollution. Their second project was to design an apron using acrylic paints on plant leaves to transfer designs onto the aprons. Each participant left with a piece of art and a personalized apron.
